== How to interpret the "clip" LEDs ==
== How to Interpret the LEDs Near the Channel 1 and Channel 2 Inputs ==
There are two LEDs on the PS1 powerstand -- one for Channel 1 and another for Channel 2. They work in concert with the trim control on each of these two inputs and are turned on and off depending on the signal level after the gain supplied by the trim control.

These LEDs turn from off to green when there's more than a little bit of signal. Thus GREEN indicates "there's some signal in the channel". This can be useful if for example, you speak into a microphone and the LED does not turn green, which could indicate a broken microphone or defective mic cable.
There are two LEDs on the PS1 powerstand -- one for Channel 1 and another for Channel 2.

The LEDs turn from green to red when at a level that leaves 10 dB of headroom before clipping. Said another way, when you see RED on the LED it does NOT mean you are clipping. It means "do not add any more gain on the trim control" and you will have a safe amount of headroom for virtually any performance.
The channel input LED works in concert with the Trim Control located nearby. The trim control adjustst the amount of gain in the preamplifier.

The LEDs is activated when the signal level at a point just '''after the preamplifier''' reaches certain thresholds.

:The LEDs turn from '''off to green''' when there's more than a little bit of signal.

:The LEDs turn from '''green to red''' when at the signal reaches a level that's about 10 dB below a level that would clip the preamp and cause objectionable distortion.

'''When the LED is off but you are playing or singing''': You are not delivering a signal to the input and/or the trim control is too low.

'''When you see green only''': This indicates that there's some signal in the channel. Singing or playing as loud as you plan to in performance, increase the trim level until the LED is only flickering red. This is the optimal gain.

'''When you see red most of the time''': Descrease the trim level until you see only flickering red. This is the optimal gain.

It is okay to do this if you like (and personally I find it a lot quicker for setup/teardown)
